iRacing's Season 3 for 2012 begins today, with the Star Mazdas taking to Brands Hatch in England for round one of the twelve round season. This season I've made up my own paint, with the my work, Charm Health, as primary sponsor. I've also got Microsoft on the engine cover, with my fuel sponsor BP on the nose. The paint scheme is Charm Healths
Last season over 1500 competitors took place in the Star Mazda series and I finished 77th overall, competing in Division 3. This season I'll be in division 4 and I'm hoping to do a little better than last season, now I know most of the tracks and the car.
Star Mazdas are open-wheel race cars running on slick tyres and using the Mazda 13B rotary engine, generating about 220HP. They're the third step up on the open wheel road series which starts at the MX-5 and continues with the Skip Barber car before the Star Mazda. The Star Mazda is the first open wheel slick tyred car drivers will experience as they attempt to rise up through the ranks to race in the Formula 1 World Series.
